Spartan Nash Expands Operations to California

Grocery wholesaler and retailer SpartanNash is partnering with Coastal Pacific Food Distributors (CPFD) to expand its distribution footprint to the West Coast.

Michigan based SpartanNash said it will launch operations out of CPFD’s 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Stockton, Calif. Plans call for SpartanNash to begin working with the facility in March.

“Having a West Coast presence allows us to provide faster, fresher and more cost-effective deliveries to our customers so they can ensure their shoppers have access to the critical food and household supplies they need,” SpartanNash President and CEO Tony Sarsam said in a statement announcing the partnership.

Currently, the company’s food distribution business mainly serves the Midwest and Southeast. SpartanNash does distribute to all 50 states, supplying 145 corporate-owned supermarkets in nine Midwestern states, over 2,100 independent grocery retailers, and serves thousands of additional retail locations nationwide, as well as over 400 military exchanges around the globe.
