Food & Wine’s list of the top supermarkets in the U.S. has H-E-B as its number one choice.
The company’s private label program was a major factor. Food & Wine said it was impressed with H-E-B’s wide range of private labels and highlighted the store’s curbside service and the in-store tortillas.
Wegmans, which finished behind H-E-B in second, was also cited for its private label along with its baked goods and prepared foods. Hy-Vee came in third for its homestyle prepared meals and community involvement.
New Seasons and Market Basket were 4 and 5, respectively. The German-based Lidl, which has been trying to gain traction in the U.S., comes in at No. 7 on the top supermarket list and Winco Foods, Trader Joe’s, Publix, and Costco round out the top 10.
