CVS Health is taking steps to address the cost of women's personal care by reducing the prices of CVS Health store-brand menstrual products by 25% in its store nationwide. The company announced the changes during a panel on female health on October 11, the International Day of the Girl.
CVS also announced it will pay sales taxes for customers on period products, which include tampons, sanitary pads and liners, and period cups, in the 12 states that have the so-called ‘tampon tax.’ Those states are Arkansas, Georgia, West Virginia, Louisiana, Hawaii, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. The company is also going to try and eliminate the tax nationwide.
The company said it is not only the ‘tampon tax’ which impacts customers but also the ‘pink tax’ on products for women. The "pink tax" refers to how women often pay more for products that are almost identical in quality and design to men's products.
CVS said it has reviewed prices on thousands of goods to help create fair and equitable pricing on comparable products for men and women, like razors and shaving cream.
