BJ’s Wholesale Club is acquiring four distribution centers and the trucking fleet from Burris Logistics, a specialist in temperature-controlled logistics that has been providing distribution services to the wholesaler for more than 20 years.
The deal, which the two companies expect to close in the second quarter of this year, “is part of a larger strategy to expand and scale efficient supply chain capabilities,” according to BJ’s Wholesale Chief Operations Officer Jeff Desroches.
BJ’s Wholesale plans to take over the four Burris distribution centers, which are in Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, and Maryland. Burris has 14 facilities across nine states and specializes in handling perishables including fresh food.
The move is seen as a way for BJ’s to gain more control over its supply chain, which has become an increasing priority to many retailers in the wake of shipping troubles throughout the country.
