Dollar General Planning Over 1,000 New Stores This Year

Dollar General plans to greatly expand its retail footprint this year. The company said it plans to open 1,110 new stores in 2022, including 100 new DG Fresh distribution centers and pOpshelf stores.

The planned expansion is expected to create about 10,000 new jobs, which would be an increase of 6% in the company’s workforce. In addition to the new DG Fresh and pOpshelf, stores, the company also plans to expand into Mexico with the addition of 10 DG locations.

“We are excited to add new opportunities for individuals to start or develop their career through our growing organization, and we look forward to welcoming new talent to the DG family again this year,” said Kathy Reardon, Dollar General’s Executive Vice President, and chief people officer.

Tennessee-based Dollar General posted over $33 billion in sales in 2021 and has nearly 18,000 stores in 46 states.
