Coop is simplifying its retail banners in Denmark and will abandon the Fakta banner by the end of this year. The Fakta supermarket chain was launched in 1981 and has almost 360 stores in the country. Coop says that it wants to focus on its new Coop 365 discount banner. Many of the Faktas will be converted into locations for new Coop 365 discount stores, while some stores will close altogether.
According to Nielsen, the past year has seen sales surge at Coop 365 discount, which has delivered growth "far better" than all other chains.
In addition, two other banners of the retailer, SuperBrugsen and Kvickly, will merge and be operated as one unified chain. With a total turnover of €3.36 billion, it will be Denmark's largest supermarket chain. Coop says that with the changes, it aims to become more efficient, simpler and cheaper for customers.
