Spanish retailer Alcampo is buying 235 supermarkets from competitor Grupo Dia. The stores have an average size of 765 square meters and they will be integrated into Alcampo’s sales network once the competition authorities give their approval. The acquisition also includes a warehouse.
For Alcampo, the move means almost a doubling of its store network which will amount to 545 points of sale after the closing of the deal. Dia, part of Auchan Retail,
aims to focus on neighbourhood and proximity stores and can use the funds to accelerate remodeling its network to this new store model.
