Charles Carlbom joined Western Family Foods in 1982, and served as the Tigard, Oregon-based company’s President and CEO until his retirement in 1997. In an era when high-quality private label products and packaging were, for the most part, beyond the reach of smaller chains and independent retailers, Chuck was committed to investing in programs that would expand the range of options available. Engaging with his private label suppliers as partners in delivering the best possible experience for his customers he succeeded in turning Western Family into a regional brand with a reputation for excellence throughout its markets. Chuck was also dedicated to serve as mentor for key managers within his own organization and the industry at-large – a legacy that continues today as result of his efforts and backing in the 1990s.
