Peter Schwartz
Peter Schwartz, a founder of one of the country’s largest and most successful private label organizations. The broker community made up of independent manufacturers’ representatives and was organized by specific product lines and territories played a pivotal role in growth and success of private label. This was the background and history against which an entirely new private label business model would emerge. The enterprise founded by Peter Schwartz in partnership with Milt Sender took its company name from Peter’s middle name, Damon. Daymon Associates would grow to form the basis of one of the largest private brand companies in the world, with offices today in over 210 locations throughout the U.S. and 20 other countries around the globe. Peter passed away in 1994 after a prolonged battle with cancer. The company that he helped to build has continued to have far reaching impact on the growth and success of private label. Daymon retail customers today account for virtually one third of all U.S. grocery sales, in addition to one third of all drug store sales, and over half of all sales in the warehouse/wholesale club channel. Taken together, the company’s accounts are responsible for retail and wholesaling operations serving nearly 20,000 stores worldwide.
