Grocery Prices Climb Faster than Restaurant Prices

Month-to-month price increases for groceries surged past price hikes at restaurants in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly consumer price index (CPI) report.
Food-at-home prices rose 0.8% in June, led by a 4.5% increase in beef prices and a 2.5% overall increase in prices for meat, poultry, fish, and eggs. In May, food-at-home prices increased by 0.4% from April. Food-away-from home prices at restaurants and foodservice venues rose 0.7% in June, after a 0.6% increase in May.
